Topical suspensions are suspensions designed for dermatological, cosmetic and protective purposes. These suspensions are usually colored and may have some perfume, but do not contain sweeteners and flavors that are typically used for oral administration. The concentration of the dispersed phase may exceed 20%. The type of topical suspension may be a liquid formulation, such as a stovepipe lotion, which is intended to leave a light deposit of the active substance on the skin after rapid evaporation of the dispersion medium. Topical suspensions should be easy to apply, not easily dispersed, able to dry quickly and form a protective film that cannot be easily wiped off after drying, and are widely used in medical applications, in oral, topical, injectable, eye drop, aerosol and long-acting dosage forms.
