About Enteral Nutrition Formulations

The main enteral nutrition preparations commonly used in clinical practice are powders, suspensions and emulsions. Among them, powders containing amino acid mixture or hydrolyzed protein, monosaccharide, disaccharide or oligosaccharide, and low fat form solutions after adding water; powders containing multimeric dextrin or soluble starch, calcium salts with small solubility, and high fat form stable suspensions after adding water. Enteral nutrition preparations can be further divided into elemental, non-elemental, component type and special application type according to their composition. Among them, the commercialized preparations commonly used in clinical practice are mainly elemental and non-elemental types. Elemental enteral nutrition preparations are further divided into those with amino acids as the nitrogen source and those with peptides as the nitrogen source; non-elemental enteral nutrition preparations use whole proteins as the nitrogen source.
