Polymersomes are composed of ordered aggregates of amphiphilic block copolymers. A typical polymeric vesicle is a hollow sphere with an aqueous solution in its core, surrounded by a bilayer membrane. The bilayer consists of a hydrated hydrophilic crown located inside and outside the hydrophobic middle part of the membrane, which isolates and protects the fluid core from the external medium. The main methods of preparing polymersomes are the phase transformation method and the thin film hydration method. Polymersomes are characterized by a wide variety of preparation materials, good stability, biodegradability, and versatility, and can transport both water-soluble and hydrophobic drug molecules, such as hydrophilic chemicals, enzymes, proteins and peptides, DNA or RNA, while hydrophobic drugs can be solubilized in the bilayer hydrophobic core.
