Transdermal Mechanisms of Liposomes
Nanocosmetics operate through a variety of delivery mechanisms, with the following mechanisms serving as typical examples.
- Penetration mechanism. Complete liposomes can pass through the stratum corneum and even penetrate deep into the skin, reaching blood vessels.
- Hydration mechanism. Liposomes can hydrate the stratum corneum, enhance the water-binding capacity, widen the intercellular spaces of the stratum corneum, disrupt the arrangement of the hydrophobic tails in the lipid bilayer, and ultimately allow the lipophilic drugs to enter the intercellular spaces through diffusion and capillary suction.
- Fusion mechanism. The phospholipids in liposomes are "similarly soluble" with the lipids in the stratum corneum, which causes changes in the lipid composition and structure of the stratum corneum, forming a flat granular structure. The effective components encapsulated by liposomes can enter the skin through the gaps of the lipid particles.

- Improved Osmotic Permeability. The skin transdermal absorption efficiency is significantly improved, leading to targeted delivery of active ingredients into the dermis layer and thereby enhancing their bioavailability.
- Moisturizing Function. Maintaining skin moisture, while lipids penetrate deep into the skin can inhibit water diffusion within the skin, thus moisturizing and softening it.
- Skin Care Function. Reducing excess fat and toxin deposition on the skin, moisturizing keratinized tissue, and promoting overall skincare.
- Enhanced Skin Texture. The skin now feels smoother and more conducive to healthy skin.
- Solubility in Water. With 100% solubility in water, the introduction of this substance into water leads to the Tyndall effect, effectively addressing the application limitations associated with water-insoluble active substances.
