In this method, the drug is dissolved in a suitable liquid solvent, and the solution is incorporated into the melt of polyols, such as polyethene glycol, obtained below 70 ℃. Without removing the liquid solvent, the solid dispersions are shaped into films using dies. The workflow of solid dispersion extrusion technology for oral thin film preparation is as follows:

Solid dispersion extrusion technology is a method for manufacturing oral thin films using the solid dispersion method. The methods used to prepare solid dispersion include the melting method, solvent method and mechanical dispersion method. CD Formulation relies on our advanced design concept to use the following preparation methods to prepare solid dispersion, improve the dissolution of insoluble APIs, and support the development of oral thin film products.
The melting method is to proportionate the drug and the carrier into a low eutectic or solid solution and then rapidly cool it to form a solid dispersion.
The solvent method is the most traditional method for preparing solid dispersion. The carrier and API are dissolved in a benign solvent, and then the solvent is evaporated to obtain a solid dispersion.
The mechanical dispersion method highly disperses the drug particles in the carrier through strong mechanical energy. The mechanical pulverizer can crush the particle size to less than 10 microns, the airflow pulverizer can crush the particle size to less than 5 microns, and the homogenizer can control the particle size to less than 1 micron.
We use innovative solid dispersion extrusion manufacturing processes, which are fully scalable and efficiently meet demands. At the same time, we can characterize the dispersion, pay close attention to its state changes, and ensure the production of high-quality oral thin film products.

Results: This study aimed to enhance the solubility and dissolution of Glimepiride, a new-generation hypoglycaemic agent with low water solubility, by preparing fast-dissolving buccal films (FDBFs) containing Glimepiride solid dispersion. The results show that the developed FDBFs loaded with Glimepiride solid dispersion demonstrated a markedly improved dissolution profile, avoidance of extensive first-pass metabolism, and improved patient compliance.
