Results:
An end-to-end workflow was designed and implemented in Ghana to detect the diversity of antimalarial drug resistance markers and vaccine target cyclosporin (csp) proteins in Plasmodium falciparum using nanopore sequencing. The authors analyzed 196 clinical samples and showed that our method is fast, robust, accurate and easy to implement. Importantly, authors' method can be applied to dried blood spot samples, which are easily collected in endemic settings. The authors' study demonstrates the feasibility of nanopore sequencing for malaria genomic surveillance in malaria-endemic countries.
