CD Formulation provides physical parameter testing services for transdermal formulations, as well as conventional characterization of transdermal formulations, etc., which can reflect the actual situation of transdermal formulations. By understanding these parameters of transdermal formulations, we can better develop transdermal formulations. Here, we provide common transdermal formulation appearance analysis services.
Transdermal formulations generally consist of several layers, including a backing layer, a drug-containing matrix, pressure-sensitive adhesive, and a protective layer. Usually, the appearance of a transdermal formulation can tell whether there are obvious quality defects in the product. The appearance of the transdermal formulations should be complete and smooth, with a uniform application area, and the cutouts should be smooth and without sharp edges.
Our appearance analysis includes the following aspects:
Fig.1 Types of transdermal patches: (A) drug-in adhesive system; (B) Reservoir system; (C) matrix Figure 2. Types of transdermal patch (Won Fen Wong, et al., 2023)
Check the overall shape and size of the patch to ensure that it meets the specifications. Observe whether the color of the patch is uniform and consistent, without obvious color differences or color changes.
Check whether the surface of the patch is flat and smooth, without defects such as bubbles, wrinkles, unevenness or stains. Use a magnifying glass to carefully observe the surface for tiny foreign objects, particles or scratches.
Check whether the edges of the patch are neat, without damage or burrs. Ensure that the adhesive part of the edge does not lift or separate.
If there is printing or labeling on the patch, check whether it is clear and complete, without blurring, falling off or misalignment. Check the information on the printing or label to ensure it is accurate.
Use measuring tools such as calipers and gauges to accurately measure the size of the patch to ensure that it meets the specifications.
For transparent or translucent patches, check whether their transparency is consistent and whether there are no turbidity or color spots. For patches with gloss requirements, check whether the gloss meets the standard and whether there is dullness or uneven gloss.
We have various instruments and equipment for analysis inspection of transdermal formulation to ensure product quality and compliance with standards.
Our appearance analysis checks all aspects of transdermal formulations such as color, size, shape, etc. The process is as follows:

Results: In the study, Evaluation of the prepared films in terms of physical appearance, weight uniformity, thickness uniformity, surface pH, flatness test, water vapor absorption, water vapor transmission, and drug content uniformity suggest that the method employed for formulation of the transdermal patches was reproducible and ensured excellent quality and uniformity in patch characteristics with minimum variability.
