Gels are viscoelastic polymers composed of colloidal particles or interconnected polymer chains forming a three-dimensional network within a liquid. Due to their comfortable texture, air permeability, and compatibility, gels are ideal for transdermal drug delivery. CD Formulation offers comprehensive development services for organogel-based transdermal systems that mitigate gastrointestinal irritation and expand the applicability of various drugs.
Organogels are gel-based systems formed with non-polar solvents like hexane, isopropyl myristate, or natural oils such as sunflower or corn oil. These formulations are gaining popularity due to their simple preparation and stable structures, accommodating both hydrophilic and hydrophobic compounds. Organogels enable controlled drug release through multiple administration routes and are thermoreversible, making them versatile for drug delivery applications.

Lecithin organogels are biocompatible systems that enhance drug solubility and permeability, making them ideal for transdermal delivery. These isotropic gels consist of phospholipids and are known for their stability and ease of application.
These organogels are formulated using soy lecithin, isopropyl myristate, water, and Pluronic F127. They serve as efficient carriers for hydrophobic and hydrophilic molecules in topical and transdermal treatments.
PrLOs offer enhanced thermal stability, non-greasy textures, and are free from Pluronic derivatives, reducing skin irritation and ensuring better aesthetic acceptability.
Formed by cooling concentrated gelatin solutions, MBGs are used for the controlled release of hydrophobic drugs in topical or transdermal applications.
Containing sorbitan monostearate or monopalmitate as gelling agents, these organogels are hydrophobic, non-ionic, and effective in immobilizing a range of solvents.

Results: In this review, we have discussed the advancement of organogels with respect to their preparation, characterization, and applications in various skin diseases. Organogels present unique characteristics, including their thermodynamic behavior, viscoelasticity, and versatility. These characteristics can easily be tuned by simple formulation adjustments, resulting in highly structured architectures. Among other organogel-based formulations, LOs have emerged as one of the most promising carrier systems for topical medication delivery. This have also proved to have advantages over other lipid-based systems like vesicular systems (liposomes and niosomes) and semisolid dosage systems in terms of effectiveness, stability, and most importantly technological viability.
By adjusting the formulation and composition of the organogels, we successfully improved the efficiency of transdermal drug delivery. For example, choosing the right gel matrix and adding transdermal accelerators can effectively enhance the skin permeability of the drug. With advanced R&D technology, CD Formulation is committed to bringing you more efficient and safer gel products.
