As a new type of drug dosage form, the oral film is deeply loved by patients, but its appearance will also directly affect the user experience of patients, among which transparency is an important indicator of appearance tests, because it will affect the beauty of the product and the acceptance of patients. CD Formulation offers a variety of methods for testing the transparency of oral thin film, and we choose the most appropriate method according to the type and needs of customers.

We can offer different transparency testing methods relying on our extensive experience in the analysis of oral thin film.
This is a simple and qualitative method of visually inspecting thin film for turbidity, opacity or visible particles. This method can provide a general indication of thin film transparency and does not provide a precise measurement.
This method involves measuring the amount of light transmitted through the film using an ultraviolet (UV) spectrophotometer. Oral thin film samples are cut rectangularly and placed inside the UV spectrophotometer cuvette. The permeability of the film is made at a wavelength of 600 nm. The following equation is used for the results obtained:
Transparency=logT600/b
(T600 = Transmittance at 600 nm, b = film thickness(mm)
Haze is a measure of the scattering of light as it passes through thin film, which can quantify the degree of cloudiness or haziness in thin film and be used to indicate the transparency of thin film.
Transparency Testing | Detailed Information |
Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer (UVS) | The UVS is a very specialized type of light meter that is sensitive to ultraviolet light. We use UVS to measure the absorbance or transmittance of light in the ultraviolet wavelength range of thin film samples to evaluate the transparency of oral thin film samples. |
Haze Meter | The haze meter is a commonly used instrument for measuring haze or cloudiness. The haze meter quantifies the scattering of light as it passes through the film, providing an objective measurement of the film's transparency. |

Results: In this study, transparency analysis was performed for each OTF formulation; the results show that the transparency of OTF formulations (such as F1, F6, F7, F11, and F12) prepared alone or in a combination of cellulose derivatives (such as sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC E15) and pullulan as polymers were found to be significantly different compared to ones prepared with other polymers (p < 0.05).
