Oral thin films are a dosage form that consists of a thin, water-soluble film that is placed in the oral cavity where it rapidly disintegrates and releases the active pharmaceutical ingredient. Solid state analysis of oral thin films is important to ensure the quality, stability, and performance of the product. CD Formulation provides professional X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetric (DSC), thermogravimetric (TGA) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analytical techniques to evaluate the physic-chemical properties of the oral thin film and help our clients develop high-quality oral thin film products.

Oral thin film solid state analysis refers to the scientific methods and techniques used to assess and characterize the physical and chemical properties of the solid-state components in oral thin films. This type of analysis is crucial for understanding the properties of the active pharmaceutical ingredient, excipients, and the overall solid-state composition of the oral thin film dosage form. The comprehensive solid-state analysis is not only helpful to analyze the solid form of the oral thin film drug, but also to identify the differences in physical and chemical properties between different crystal forms. Rational use of various characterization techniques to perform correct solid-state characterization of oral thin film drugs and understanding the solid-state properties of thin film drugs are qualities that pharmaceutical practitioners should possess.
As a leader in oral thin film drug delivery systems, we are equipped with specialized analytical laboratories, we offer a comprehensive range of oral thin film solid state analysis services. Our experienced team is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and expertise to provide in-depth characterization of the solid-state properties of oral thin film. We can provide our client with oral thin film solid state analysis services including but not limited to the following items:
X-ray diffraction is used to study the crystalline structure of the active pharmaceutical ingredient within the oral thin film.
DSC is used to study the thermal properties of oral thin films.
TGA is used to study the thermal stability and decomposition behavior of the components in the thin film. It involves measuring the weight changes of a material as a function of temperature, providing valuable information about its thermal properties.
FT-IR analysis provides valuable information about the chemical composition and structural properties of oral thin film, this can provide important information for the consistency, stability, and performance of oral thin film.

Results: In this study, oral thin film (OTF) containing meclizine hydrochloride (MH) was designed and prepared using the solvent casting technology. The characteristics of the prepared OTF were evaluated using DSC, and X-ray diffraction. ATR-FTIR was employed to investigate the interaction between the drug and polymer. DSC and XRD showed MH was amorphous in the polymer. ATR-FTIR indicated the MH molecules inserted into the network structure of polymers, which resulted in an inhibition of drug recrystallization.
