Contact angle measurement is a geometric measurement that quantifies how wet a solid surface is by a liquid. It's the angle between the liquid's surface tangent and the solid's surface tangent at the point where they meet. The purpose of contact angle measurement is to evaluate the wetting properties, dissolution and disintegration time of oral thin film. CD Formulation can provide our clients with contact angle measurement service to meet the development and quality control for oral thin film.
The contact angle is the angle formed between the liquid droplet and the surface of the thin film. A low contact angle indicates that the liquid spreads easily on the surface, indicating good wettability. A high contact angle suggests poor wettability and limited interaction between the liquid and the surface.
The contact angle affects the wettability, adhesion and solubility of oral thin films. The smaller the contact angle, the better the wettability of the thin film, the faster the dissolution rate and the better the drug delivery effect.
The contact angle can be measured using a goniometer, which displays an enlarged image of a water drop on a gauge. The gauge is then adjusted to measure the angle between the material and the edge of the drop. Our contact angle measurement process is as follows:

Results: In this study, transparent conducting Tin doped Cadmium oxide thin films were prepared by sol-gel spin coating method with different Sn concentrations, and surface roughness variations were analyzed by water contact angle measurement. The microphotographs show water droplets on the prepared substrates to measure the water contact angle. The observed contact angle (-118°, 103°, 93° and 84° for 0%, 1%, 3%, and 5%, respectively) is decreased as increasing Sn doping level indicates the reduction of surface roughness.
