Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy is an excellent analytical tool, that can rapidly determine important quality parameters. During formulation and development of oral thin film, FT-IR is used to measure and examine infrared spectra of all components entering oral thin film formulations to detect unwanted interactions between formulation components and the pure API and identify the spectrum of chemical ingredients present in the oral thin film sample. CD Formulation provides professional FT-IR analysis techniques to check the interactions between the active ingredients, and excipients, helping to develop high-quality oral thin films.

FT-IR analysis measures the infrared region of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum, which has a longer wavelength and a lower frequency than visible light. This spectrum is measurable in a sample when subjected to infrared radiation (IR). The basic theory is that the bonds between atoms absorb light at different frequencies. FT-IR analysis measures the range of wavelengths in the infrared region that are absorbed by a thin film sample. The sample's ability to absorb the infrared light's energy at various wavelengths is measured to determine the sample's molecular composition and structure.

FT-IR Spectroscopy Techniques | FT-IR spectroscopy is a widely used analytical technique for studying the chemical composition of materials based on their molecular vibrations. This instrument typically consists of an infrared source, interferometer, detector, and data system. The spectrometer generates an infrared spectrum by measuring the absorption or transmission of infrared radiation by the sample. |

Results: In this study, the compatibility of drugs and polymers was studied using Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. FT-IR Spectrum was recorded between 600-4000 cm-1. The results show that the FTIR spectrum of montelukast depicts a characteristic absorption band at 3437 cm-1 representing the presence of the OH group. The CH2 and C-N vibrations showed a characteristic absorption band in the region of 2926 cm-1 and 1265 cm-1. The spectrum of montelukast-polymer physical mixtures showed absorption bands at 3414 cm-1, 2926 cm-1, and 1266 cm-1 OH, The CH2 and C-N. It indicates drugs and drug-containing physical mixture absorption bands were near and that there was no chemical and physical change in the functional groups present in montelukast sodium.
