What is Transcriptomics?

Transcriptomics Services

Transcriptome, in general, refers to the sum of all RNA that can be transcribed in a cell or a group of cells under the same environment (or physiological conditions), including messenger RNA (mRNA), ribosomal RNA (rRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA) and non-coding RNA; In a narrow sense, it refers to all the messenger RNA (mRNA) that a cell can transcribe. Therefore, simply, transcriptomics is the study of all the RNA molecules in the cell. Transcriptome sequencing or RNA-seq is a next-generation sequencing based approach to profiling and analysing RNA. There are many different transcriptome techniques to date, but all rely on RNA-seq to identify and quantify gene transcripts.

Our Services

We can offer transcriptomics services, including:

  • Eukaryotic reference transcriptomic sequencing
  • Eukaryotic no-Reference transcriptomic sequencing
  • Prokaryotic transcriptomic sequencing
  • IncRNA sequencing
  • miRNA sequencing
  • Small RNA sequencing
  • Whole transcriptomic sequencing

RNA-seq (Transcriptomics) Methods and Procedure

At CD Formulation, RNA-seq generally begins with the extraction of RNA from selected biological materials (e.g. cells, tissues). Then, subpopulations of RNA molecules need to be isolated using specific protocols, such as poly-A selection for concentrated adenylated transcripts or ribosomal depletion for removal of ribosomal RNA. Next, the RNA is converted into complementary DNA (cDNA) by reverse transcription and the sequencing splices are attached to the ends of the cDNA fragments[1]. After PCR amplification, the RNA-seq library is ready for sequencing. The workflow is shown in the Figure 1.
