What is Epigenomics?

Epigenetics is the study of alterations in gene expression without changes in the DNA sequence[1]. Therefore, fundamentally, epigenomics, is the study of the effects of chromatin structure, including higher order chromatin folding and attachment to the nuclear matrix, packaging of DNA around nucleosomes, covalent modifications of histone tails (acetylation, methylation, phosphorylation, ubiquitination), and DNA methylation, which are on the genetic material of a cell, known as the epigenome[2]. DNA methylation, one of the most important epigenetic signature type and methods, is widely used in the study of disease development, exposure and response to environmental factors, development and differentiation, and disease markers. Therefore, the study of epigenomics, which regulates genome or gene expression, provides new research directions for new therapeutic approaches.

ChIP is a technique for studying how proteins interact with DNA in living cells. Using the specificity of antigen-antibody reaction, it can truly reflect the binding status of protein factors and genomic DNA in vivo. Chip-seq technology is a technology that combines ChIP with NGS to obtain the DNA sequence bound to the target protein at one time, determine the binding distribution of the protein and the exact binding site.
